Let's Talk Pre-Shave Oil

Most people who are new to wet-shaving have never heard of pre-shave oil.  In fact, when I rediscovered wet shaving in 2014- I was somewhat reluctant to try pre-shave oil.  Would it cause my skin to break out?  Isn't it greasy?  What does it really do anyway? If you visit a traditional barbershop, quite a few barbers will use a pre-shave oil.  Some have their own proprietary recipes, while others trust a well known brand.  So what exactly is a pre-shave oil and what are the benefits?  Pre-shave oil refers to any oil that is applied to the skin prior to lathering up for a shave. These oils are designed to help soften the facial hair. The benefits of pre-shave...

SOTD? YMMV? BBS?

SOTD, SOTN, BBS..... what's with all of these abbreviations? Those in the world of wet shaving will recognize them as Shave Of The Day, Shave Of The Night and Baby Butt Smooth. I'll admit that my first few times visiting shaving forums, all of these "code words" left me confused and made me realize there is more to wet shaving than just a razor and some soap. Wet shaving has its own language and its own lingo. Learning it is part of the experience and ritual- one that should be enjoyed as much as the shave itself. The Ritual of Wet Shaving

Wet shaving is making a resurgence.  Men everywhere (and women) are rediscovering this art.  Since my company focusses on wet shaving, it only makes sense that I dive deep into the subject.  As you'll soon discover, like many things, wet shaving is often a personal preference.  Whether you use a disposable razor or safety razor; a brush or your hands; a mug or a scuttle; a soap or a cream, ultimately the choice is yours.   That is, you can invest in as little or as much as you want.  There are not a lot of rules about wet shaving but  there are a lot of guidelines.  More than anything, I want you to enjoy the experience- the ritual of...

What's in a Name?

In a perfect world, I would tell you that my company business model, branding and logo came to me in a dream.  Truth is, everything has evolved on its own, at its own pace.  My vision from 3 years ago is definitely not what my vision is today.  There were so many things that had to fall into place.  There were so many decisions that had to be made.  A big aspect of this is the company name.  It's an identity. You'll see it over and over again on labels, stationery and your website.  You'll say it over and over again when you answer the phone.   It took a lot of brainstorming and beer to come up with a name.  I'll...

How This All Began- Part 1- Welcome

Whenever I tell people about my company, the first thing they ask is how I came up with this idea.  The idea for the Stone Field Shaving Company began 3 years ago.  I was on vacation with my wife, Stav, in New York City.  For those of you that have been to the Big Apple, you'll understand and appreciate just how much walking one person does.  On one of our ventures, we came across a men's shaving store that specialized in men's wet shaving products.  I was really intrigued.  I had never been inside one before.  I walked out with my first set- a shaving brush, pre-shave oil, shaving cream and after shave balm.  Now I should probably back track...
