Lucky Number 54 Shave Soap
"Gentlemen- start your engines.”
When I was much younger, maybe 8 or 9 years old, my grandfather used to show us movies on his old 8 mm film projector.
He’d dim the lights and this tiny projector would come to life. The one movie that still sticks in my mind was a film about a car race. It featured a bright red modified 1938 Chevy Coup with a ‘55 Corvette engine with the number 54 painted in white on the side of the body. I watched the car make a few laps around at the Brooklyn Speedway in Winnipeg and then cross the finish line. The movie ended with the driver holding the checkered flag and making a victory lap.
Matthew and Tammy moved to Leduc County in 2016 and started Blackbird Farm & Apothecary in the fall of 2018. Tammy's education and experience as a nurse was the driving force behind their personal care products and the very beginning of this adventure. Wanting to have safe, effective products to use on a daily basis was really important and lead to the testing and development of their personal care product line.
Matthew's education in Forestry has always drawn and grounded him in nature. His work experience in the cabinet industry has honed his skills and love of creative design and working with his hands. This creativity is the foundation from which stems the custom woodworking and laser engraving- another key component of their business.

Love the shave soap. Lather and aroma is stellar. Great recommendation from Jonathan on Seppo's Aftershave.
I was initially pulled in by this soap because of the vintage race car back story, but knowing that the soap was made by Blackbird sealed the deal for me. I have had great experiences with their soaps in the past.
So how did it perform?! Extremely well. Excellent, coverage/protection excellent lubrication and easy to rinse off the blade in between passes.
And that scent! Oh boy! It's one of a kind. In 2 words, vintage, classic. I know this might be stretching it, but it brings me to the race track; summer dirt, gasoline, pop, heated metal, hay, leather.
In short, it totally worked.
