Behind the Shave: Why Customer Service is at the Heart of Stone Field Shaving

When I think back to the early days of Stone Field Shaving, what stands out most aren’t the sales or the logistics — it’s the feeling I had when those first few orders came in. Each one felt like a small miracle. Someone out there, maybe miles away, trusted me enough to send them something as personal as a shaving soap or a razor. That trust meant everything.

I’d take so much time with the packaging. I remember sitting at the table with rolls of craft paper and twine, carefully wrapping each parcel like it was a gift for a friend. I wanted the unboxing to feel special — to show the customer that I genuinely cared. The twine didn’t always cooperate, and sometimes I’d fuss over whether it looked “just right,” but the ritual mattered to me. It was my way of saying thank you.

As more orders started coming in, I had to find a better system. That’s when I moved to craft bags. They were quicker, easier, and far more efficient, but they still carried that same spirit of care. I never wanted efficiency to replace thoughtfulness. Even as things grew, I promised myself I wouldn’t lose that sense of connection with the people opening those packages.  Since the very beginning I have strived to include a small note of gratitude with every order.

That’s really what customer service means to me. It isn’t about answering emails or fixing mistakes — though I do plenty of that. It’s about making sure every person who chooses Stone Field Shaving knows they’re not just another order number. I want them to feel the same level of care I put into those very first packages wrapped in brown paper and tied with twine.

Customer service is at the heart of my business because shaving is personal. It’s a ritual, a moment of calm, a way to start fresh. And I believe the experience of receiving your products should reflect that same spirit — thoughtful, careful, and personal.

So while the packaging may have evolved and the pace may have quickened, the heart of it hasn’t changed. Behind every order, every update, and every package is still me, making sure your shave — and your experience — is as smooth as possible.

May all of your shaves be smooth.
