These shave brushes are really unique pieces. Made locally here in Winnipeg, these red clay ceramic handles are glazed based on many of the colours used in our existing pieces from Windhorse Pottery. Crafted in a similar method to the handles of our scuttles, these brushes are individual works of art.
No two brushes are alike.
Making these brushes presents a challenge. Clay naturally shrinks when it's dried and fired. Trying to find the right measurements is no easy task. We chose synthetic knots for this handle and used a marine grade epoxy to hold it in place.
Will it break? In addition to this glaze being water proof, it's also very strong. It's the same as dinnerware. It will not scratch- it's a very durable surface. Each piece is fired to 2200 degrees F (1200 C) which creates a silica glass layer on the surface.
Knot: Synthetic, 26 mm
Bernard Ferguson is the artist behind these bowls. Bernard began his artistic career painting. However, after some time, he was drawn to the clay medium because of its three dimensional abilities and its connection to nature. For nearly 15 years, Bernard has been making incredible pieces on the wheel. His work is featured at The Forks, Pinch of Creativity and Rams Wool in Winnipeg.
Bernard often focuses on pieces that are functional and utilitarian. His love of Nature and Japanese culture are blended into his pieces making them true works of art.
